In this role, you'll have the opportunity to direct and manage multiple project construction design, including project cost estimates and scheduling. You will be responsible to implement processes, procedures and policies that allow for an organized, disciplined and optimized organization delivering best-in-class quality of engineering deliverables to Gas Construction in accordance with the annual business plan and objectives, company and regulatory mandates, company policy and generally accepted engineering principles.
Job Responsibilities
Responsible to provide leadership to project design engineering staff (including consultants) through strong leadership principles of respect and empowerment to motivate staff toward excellent service to internal and external clients, innovation, proactive work and improved project outcomes.
Coordinate multiple complex tasks, with high priority, simultaneously to meet schedules with aggressive timelines to minimize outages and provide outstanding value to internal clients
Provides design of capital construction and maintenance projects of transmission and distribution gas infrastructure, with an emphasis on high-pressure installations.
Reviews all design work performed, ensuring completeness, accuracy, constructability and conformance with gas distribution policies, applicable federal and state codes, industry best practices and company operating procedures.
Interprets contract drawings, plans, specifications, surveys and geographic data, codes, regulations, policies and procedures related to all applicable projects. Resolves escalated issues arising out of construction or project scope
Creates project cost estimates from conceptual or preliminary design through final design, prepares project work order write-up packages
Provide strong project and construction coordination with company Operating Departments. Support design and field changes within safety requirements and budgetary constraints.
Work closely with internal project managers/staff in Construction and other Gas departments to support Gas infrastructure replacements, regulatory requirements and asset life cycle replacement requirements
Actively champion and promote an environment of trust, communication, teamwork and empowerment across engineering and business teams
Drive execution within assigned budget by utilizing proper resource allocation techniques including leveraging offshore engineering to perform routine analysis when applicable, negotiating with third parties to secure best-value contract outcomes, proactively identifying potential cost overruns
Identify, support, promote, and oversee the implementation of changes to current policies, practices, procedures, designs and training
Performs storm duty as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Experience Required:
Bachelors of Science in Engineering or engineering technology from an accredited college or university
10 years combined experience including electric/gas transmission/distribution project design, construction, field operations, or project management in a Utility Environment.
5 years of Leadership experience
Must have extensive knowledge of Gas transmission/distribution system
Valid driver’s license
Must have experience applying and interpreting federal and state gas codes/regulations.
Capable of dealing effectively with internal and external customers.
Capable of simultaneously coordinating multiple tasks, with high priority.
Working knowledge of GIS, Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Microsoft Project software
Demonstrated superior presentation and written communication skills are necessary
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills are required
