Salary: $51,000 - $59,000

Location: Citywide

The Philadelphia Fire Department’s (PFD) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) division provides quality pre-hospital emergency medical care and transportation to the sick and injured in the City of Philadelphia. In addition to emergency medical care, the EMS Division provides standby medical coverage for large-scale events, disaster preparedness training, and public CPR education. With 60+ medic units strategically located throughout the city, PFD-EMS responds to over 225,000 calls for service annually.

As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Philadelphia Fire Department, you will serve as a vital part of the city's emergency response system. You will be responsible for providing basic life support and medical care to patients in emergency situations. This includes assessing patients, administering basic medical treatments, and transporting them safely to medical facilities.

This is a Civil Service position

Essential Functions

Provide basic life support (BLS) and medical care to patients in emergency situations.

Respond to emergency calls and assess the condition of patients.

Administer basic medical treatments, such as bandaging wounds, splinting fractures, and administering oxygen.

Transport patients safely to medical facilities.

Maintain accurate and complete patient care records.

Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals.

Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment and vehicles.

Adhere to all departmental policies and procedures.

Participate in continuing education and training programs to maintain certification.

Qualifications

Completion of a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course.

Possession of a valid EMT certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Possession of a valid driver's license.

Ability to pass a background check and physical fitness test.

Failure to submit BOTH documents will result in disqualification.
