The City of Scottsdale is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Planner to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in the planning and development process, ensuring that projects align with the City’s vision and goals. You will work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including residents, developers, and other City departments, to create a vibrant and sustainable community.

The Associate Planner is a professional planning position responsible for performing a variety of current and/or advanced planning tasks in support of the City's planning and development activities. Responsibilities include conducting research, analyzing data, preparing reports, and providing recommendations on land use proposals. The position requires knowledge of planning principles, zoning regulations, and development processes. The position is expected to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work effectively with the public, developers, and other City staff.

This is a hybrid position with a combination of remote work and in-office requirements.

Essential Functions:

Performs a variety of current and/or advanced planning tasks in support of the City's planning and development activities, including but not limited to: Reviews development proposals for compliance with applicable regulations and policies; conducts site inspections; prepares written reports and presentations; and provides recommendations to decision-making bodies.

Conducts research, analyzes data, and prepares reports on a variety of planning-related topics, including but not limited to: land use, zoning, transportation, housing, and economic development.

Provides technical assistance and information to the public, developers, and other City staff on planning-related matters.

Attends meetings and hearings to present information and respond to questions on planning-related matters.

Assists in the development and implementation of planning-related projects and programs.

May supervise and/or train less experienced staff.

Assists in the development and maintenance of the City's comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, and other planning-related documents.

Coordinates with other City departments and outside agencies on planning-related matters.

Participates in professional development activities to stay current on planning trends and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related field.

Experience:

One (1) year of professional planning experience.

Equivalency:

An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.

Licensing/Certification:

Possession of a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification or candidacy.

Experience with development review and zoning regulations.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in GIS software and other planning-related technologies.

Knowledge of Scottsdale's planning policies and regulations.
