Duties

This position is located at Yellowstone National Park, in the Interpretation and Education Division.The incumbent serves as a Park Ranger (Interpretation) whose primary duties focus on the delivery of a full range of interpretive services and products that lead park visitors to understand and appreciate the significance of park resources and protect those resources for future generations.Major Duties include but are not limited to:

Uses various presentation methods to convey interpretive messages and stories. Creates and conducts educational/interpretive programs such as guided walks, demonstrations, and evening programs. Designs and delivers special programs for school and tour groups. Makes frequent contact with park visitors, answering visitor questions about the park, its resources and recreational opportunities, park policies and regulations, local businesses and communities, and other area interests. May assist in developing interpretive and educational materials, to include program scripts, articles, handbooks, wayside exhibits, brochures, and social media products. Develops resource protection messages and helps inform the visiting public how they can have fun, be safe, and enjoy the park's many unique features while also protecting its cultural and natural resources. Maintains interpretive program records, including attendance data, evaluations, resource allocations, etc. Provides visitor information on a variety of subjects and promotes understanding of park resources, purposes, and operations. Provides guidance on safe practices, park regulations, natural resource protection, and cultural resource preservation.

Operates park vehicles to deliver programs in various park locations. The Park Ranger provides assistance to all divisions in park management including the Divisions of Visitor and Resource Protection, Facility Management and Science and Resource Management. The incumbent acts as the park's information liaison; informing visitors of regulations and promoting public safety. Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, and walking to perform interpretive services and office activities. May be required to work outside during inclement weather, traverse uneven terrain, and work in smoky or otherwise challenging environments. Occasionally lifts objects weighing 40 pounds or more.

Work Environment: Work may be performed in a typical office environment or outside in all weather conditions. Work may occur near moving vehicles and machinery, near hazardous chemicals, at heights, and around wildfire activities.
