They will need to have excellent working knowledge of typical oil & gas upstream facilities engineering, the challenges to asset integrity and the associated mitigation measures. Strong inter-personal and communication skills are key attributes as well as a team approach to problem solving.
Job roles include, but not limited to:
Provide technical facilities engineering support and solutions to operating assets. Ensure compliance to technical standards, Shell Design and Engineering Practices (DEPs) and industry best practice and provide guidance/solutions when required.
Lead/participate in Engineering Technical Assurance activities (e.g. Value Improvement Practices, Design Safety Reviews and Engineering Critical Activities) as per the TA plan. Participate in Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFAs) of critical equipment. Be accountable to follow-up actions to conclusion and that lessons learned are fed into local and global repositories.
Drive, coach, support the MoC (Management of Change) process by performing a ‘technical authority’ role to evaluate facility related changes including safety risks and operating implications.
Review, update and challenge key operating & maintenance procedures with appropriate technical guidance
Proactively identify opportunities to optimize facility performance and reliability
Champion competence development within the operating facilities including appropriate vendor provided training.
Provide support on turnarounds & major maintenance shutdowns.
Provide technical review of mechanical maintenance & repair scopes. Guide on complex mechanical maintenance or troubleshooting jobs
Coach technicians in their area of discipline and assist them in resolving more complex operational or maintenance related problems, provide specialist guidance when required.
Prepare scope of work for 3rd party engineering providers and review associated deliverables. Also identify improvement opportunities, ensure technical delivery is consistent and seek standardization opportunities
Prepare long term equipment performance reports to proactively highlight trends in system/component performance to aid in proactive remediation.
Conduct engineering reviews of complex failure investigations
Requirements:
Must have 7-10 years hands-on engineering experience with Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) is preferable with good academic record. Experience with operations / maintenance, engineering of medium/large hydrocarbon facilities
Experience within a variety of topsides equipment and utility systems. Typical systems including Rotating Equipment, Electrical Generation/Distribution Systems, Diesel and/or Gas Engines, Compressors, Control Systems, Storage Tanks, Piping Systems, P&ID interpretation, valves.
Specific familiarity with typical troubleshooting methodology & criticality/consequence evaluations is considered vital to the role
Possesses extensive understanding of industry codes (ANSI, ASME, API), design codes & standard engineering practices, shell DEPs
Working Knowledge of HAZOP, safety critical equipment is advantageous.
Should possess good inter-personal, communication and presentation skills to interact and support internal teams. Also must demonstrate team leadership skills when managing/participating multi-discipline engineering solutions
Knowledge & experience of Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM)
Extensive experience with asset change management & related practices is preferred. Previous ‘Management of Change’ approver competency is desirable
Practical experience with condition monitoring is desirable (Vibration Analysis, Ultrasonic Thickness measurements etc)
Good report writing skills and ability to communicate/explain engineering concepts/failures
High proficiency in speaking and writing English language is essential
Additional European language skill desirable but not mandatory
