Job Summary:
The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing automated systems and processes to improve efficiency, reliability, and safety in our operations. This role involves working closely with various teams, including engineering, operations, and maintenance, to identify automation opportunities, develop solutions, and ensure successful implementation and ongoing support.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Automation System Design and Development:
• Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for various operational processes, including but not limited to process control, equipment monitoring, and data acquisition.
• Develop detailed specifications, drawings, and documentation for automation projects.
• Select appropriate hardware and software components for automation systems.
• Programming and Configuration:
• Program and configure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and other automation equipment.
• Develop and maintain software code for automation systems, ensuring efficient and reliable operation.
• Testing and Simulation:
• Conduct thorough testing and simulation of automation systems to ensure they meet performance requirements and safety standards.
• Identify and resolve any issues or bugs in the automation code or hardware configuration.
• Implementation and Commissioning:
• Oversee the installation, commissioning, and start-up of automation systems in the field.
• Provide on-site support during the implementation phase to ensure smooth and successful deployment.
• Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
• Provide technical support for automation systems, including troubleshooting and resolving issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of automation equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Develop and maintain documentation for troubleshooting procedures and maintenance schedules.
• Data Analysis and Reporting:
• Utilize data from automation systems to analyze performance, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
• Generate reports on system performance, including key metrics such as uptime, efficiency, and energy consumption.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and maintenance, to identify automation opportunities and develop solutions.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on project status, technical issues, and recommendations.
• Training and Documentation:
• Develop and deliver training programs for operations and maintenance personnel on the use and maintenance of automation systems.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for automation systems, including design specifications, operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Compliance and Safety:
• Ensure that all automation systems comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
• Implement safety measures and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in automation engineering, with a focus on PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as ladder logic, function block diagram, and structured text.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and Profibus.
• Strong knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, and process control principles.
• Experience with data analysis and reporting tools.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
Working Conditions:
• Work may be performed in an office environment, as well as in industrial settings with exposure to noise, dust, and other environmental factors.
• Occasional travel to field locations may be required.
• Must be able to work flexible hours and respond to emergencies as needed.
