Medical Coder-Repost Full-time Job

Essential Functions1. Examines and interprets medical records (i.e., progress notes, surgery notes, discharge summaries, lab reports, radiology reports, etc.) in order to determine patient diagnoses and procedures performed on the patient for the provision of health care services.2. Assigns numeric codes to each diagnosis and procedure by utilizing ICD-9/10 CM and CPT classifications systems.3. Inputs codes into computerized databases for purposes of reimbursement by insurance companies or governmental agencies.4. May use encoder software or other applications.5. Examines patient bills for accuracy to ensure coding adequately reflects medical care and services provided, as well as, serving as the communication link to the providers.6. Processes billing corrections (rejected claims) and reviews payments, while adhering to policies, procedures and government regulation and guidelines.7. Responsible for adhering to corporate compliance plan.8. May be requested to complete other job duties and responsibilities by management when the need arises.Upholds the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program.Trains as needed to achieve greater expertise in medical record coding practices.Assists other coders on a variety of special projects.Travels to work in any organization facility/department within a reasonable commute of their regular facility, when required.MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS1. High School diploma, or equivalent required. A degree/certification/training in health information management is strongly preferred2. Certification and credentials from accredited organization of medical record coding specialist required (Certified Professional Coder, Registered Health Information Technician/Administrator)3. Understanding of Medical terminology, disease process, human anatomy and physiology, ICD-9/10 CM and CPT coding4. Minimum one to three years of relevant medical coding experience required5. Proficiency in utilizing basic computer software applications is required6. Strong critical thinking, reading, problem solving and analytical skills required.CRITICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
