The Fire and Safety Officer is an essential position at Starfish Construction and Baker’s Bay Golf and Ocean Club. The Fire and Safety Officer (FSO) is tasked with responding to emergency incidents involving fire, rescue, construction accidents, and other hazardous or emergency incidents as may occur on property. The FSO is also tasked with being the primary conduit for identifying and reporting safety violations and concerns to Starfish and Club management.
- Conduct Fire Safety Inspections
- Conduct General Safety Inspections
- Fire Station Maintenance
- Maintain and service Fire and Rescue Equipment
- Assist Medical Services on Emergency and Non-Emergency Calls
- Participate in medical training courses and other related in-service training
- Assist with Communicable Disease Mitigation Programs
- Assist with ensuring safe premises and venues
- Be familiar with the locations of gas lines and routinely inspect them
- Train staff on proper use of fire suppression systems (extinguishers, Ansul system)
- Assist with the development, enforcement, and improvement of fire evacuation policies
- Routinely inspect employee housing to identify and correct safety threats or infractions
- Ensure Emergency exit lighting in venues and public areas is functional and clearly outlines the fire escape route
- Conduct and participate in fire training
- Inspect the Club's maintained grills to identify any fire hazards
- Daily inspection of fire apparatus to ensure operation and identify defects
- Keep accurate records and generate reports on fire and safety-related matters
- Maintain elevator keys and home keys in a systematic environment
- Ensure that bi-annual inspections are conducted on ALL Club and Starfish Construction-maintained fire extinguishers
- Operate Fire and Rescue Equipment
- Extinguish uncontrolled and controlled burns as directed and needed
- Be familiar and proficient with Fire Truck Operations
- Collaborate with Starfish Construction and Residential Services to ensure that the homes have at least a minimum fire protection (fire extinguishers) before handover
- Regularly visit construction sites and ensure that safe working conditions are being maintained
- Report construction workers and companies for unsafe work practices and conditions
- Investigate fire alarm activations and/or fires to identify the likely cause
- Identify and correct unsafe road conditions, e.g., oil spills, debris
- Inspect, maintain, and test the Marina Fire Suppression System (Dock Boxes),
- Inspect, maintain, and test alarms and kitchen suppression systems
- Inspect, maintain, and test supplementary fire suppression systems property-wide
- Monitor tiki torches used property-wide to identify and correct risks
- Conduct risk assessments and forward findings to management for action
- Attend fireworks displays and ensure full extinguishment of all related fires
- Routinely maintain and test fire hydrants property-wide. Keep an accurate log of testing and report, and correct defects
- Maintain a logbook
- Inspect Club and Starfish Construction maintained fire extinguishers to identify and correct extinguisher and placement deficiencies
- Participate in and lead fire training exercises with Emergency Services’ staff
- Assist Security Department when requested
- Ensure that Club is informed of and prepared for annual fire inspections
- Investigate fire events to identify causes and preventative initiatives that could be implemented
- Verbally report matters that require immediate attention and follow up in writing
- Reasonably assist, as instructed, with all events and duties directly or indirectly related to Club safety, notwithstanding the absence of a fire
- The Fire & Safety Officer is required to perform any other duties as assigned by management.
