COAR Peace Mission
COAR Peace Mission strives to promote justice, community, and peace in El Salvador through the support of effective programs in health, education and welfare, which assist children and others, not only to develop their own full human potential, but also to contribute to the betterment of the world in which they live. From our roots as an orphanage during El Salvadors civil war (1980-1992) we have evolved with the needs of our community to support three main projects on our 80-acre campus in Zaragoza, El Salvador: the COAR Childrens Village, a residential foster-care home for 30-40 children and teens rescued from the violence and abuse of extreme poverty; the COAR School, pre-K-12th grade for over 1,000 children; a variety of other projects centered on our large chapel, vocational training, health projects, and other services for the surrounding community.COAR stands for: the Community of Oscar A. Romero. COAR Peace Mission is the 501c3 US charitable corporation that does outreach and fundraising on behalf of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Salvador for the COAR Childrens Village. The office has been in Cleveland, Ohio, since its founding by a priest of the Diocese of Cleveland, who was working with the Cleveland Dioceses mission in El Salvador.
