Job Title: Tax Auditor

Department: Audit

Reports To: Head of Audit

Job Purpose:

The Tax Auditor will be responsible for conducting comprehensive audits of taxpayer records to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations, assess the accuracy of tax returns, identify areas of non-compliance, and provide recommendations for corrective action.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct thorough tax audits of individual and corporate taxpayers by examining financial records, tax returns, and supporting documentation.

Assess the accuracy and completeness of tax returns, identify discrepancies, and determine the correct tax liabilities.

Evaluate internal controls and accounting systems of taxpayers to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.

Prepare detailed audit reports summarizing findings, conclusions, and recommendations for corrective action.

Communicate audit findings to taxpayers and provide guidance on tax compliance requirements.

Investigate suspected cases of tax evasion, fraud, and other violations of tax laws.

Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations, and provide training to staff on new requirements.

Collaborate with other departments within the GRA to resolve tax-related issues and ensure consistent application of tax laws.

Assist in the development and implementation of audit programs and procedures.

Maintain accurate and confidential records of audit activities and findings.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Audit.

Qualifications and Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA) is an advantage.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in tax auditing, accounting, or a related field.

Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations.

Experience in conducting financial audits and tax examinations.

Skills and Competencies:

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to interpret and apply tax laws and regulations.

Proficiency in the use of auditing software and accounting systems.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
