A Research Technician II position is immediately available in the Neuro-Oncology laboratory (Vitanza Lab) at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. The successful candidate will be involved in research focused on the identification and preclinical validation of new therapies to improve outcomes for children diagnosed with central nervous system tumors. Our group focuses on drug discovery using cutting edge cell-based screens, CRISPR genomic editing approaches, RNA therapeutics, patient-derived xenograft mouse models, and clinical trials. The ideal candidate should have enthusiasm for performing molecular biology research, good organizational and communication skills, and the ability to learn new skills and techniques quickly. A desire to improve treatments for children diagnosed with brain cancer is desired. Prior experience with cell culture is beneficial. Training will be provided on specific research projects and experimental techniques, as needed. The individual will work in a team with other Research Technicians, postdoctoral fellows, and a Staff Scientist and will be jointly responsible for overall laboratory function.
Responsibilities
Cell Culture and drug screening of pediatric brain tumor cell lines.
Genetic manipulation (lentiviral and retroviral transduction, CRISPR engineering).
RNA and DNA isolation and molecular analyses, including qPCR, NanoString and Western Blot.
Execution of mouse experiments, including mouse handling, drug dosing and tumor assessment.
Data analysis and organization.
Participation in group meetings and presentation of research data.
Laboratory maintenance (ordering supplies, inventory maintenance, safety training, equipment maintenance).
