We are recruiting for a Packaging Technologist to join our NPD team at Rhokett. In this role you’ll be an integral part of the NPD team including new product submissions, trials and the artwork process, as well us keeping us up to date with packaging innovations and trends.

Duties and Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Product Developers to develop primary and secondary packaging for new products which meets customer and Rhokett requirements.
  • Ensure packaging is in place for factory trials and assist the Process Technologist in ensuring the packaging is fit for use in the factory.
  • Carry out transit trials as required by customers to ensure packaging meets their requirements.
  • Understand customer requirements and policies for packaging, eg sustainability policies, shelf dimensions, secondary packaging requirements etc.
  • Support at pre-artwork meetings.
  • Manage the generation and approval of artwork.
  • Sign off packaging details as part of artwork approval process, cutter guides, position and size of date code box, barcodes etc
  • Ensure the Packaging Buyer is kept updated on any requirements for new packaging, and when it is required.
  • Identify ways for continuous improvement on existing packaging and make recommendations to the team.
  • Be responsible for streamlining packaging, where possible, across all customers,
  • Implement and maintain an inventory of all boards, cutters, trays, outer cases available to use, (to reduce wastage)
  • Attend packaging/engineering shows, reporting back new innovations to team,
  • Identify new packaging trends and how they can be implemented at Rhokett (packaging, machinery, labelling)
  • Manage the stock of packaging for the NPD team.
  • Manage and update the packaging database to ensure all packaging details are accurate and up to date.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly NPD meetings.
  • To carry out any other duties as required by the needs of the company.
  • Occasional travel may be required to visit suppliers and customers.

About you:

  • Passion for food with 3 years + experience in the food industry within packaging development and manufacturing.
  • Experience or qualification in food labelling requirements.
  • Experience working with retailers and suppliers.
  • Ability to build good relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a large range of customers.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and quick to learn.
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of Microsoft office, especially excel.
  • Strong attention to detail.
