Compass Solar Systems Limited is a leading EPC contractor specializing in utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the Bahamas and wider Caribbean. We are building resilient renewable energy infrastructure for island utilities, resorts, and communities. Role Overview We are seeking a Mechanical Lead to act as the field lead for ground-mounted solar racking installation, reporting directly to the Construction Manager.
The successful candidate will supervise mechanical crews, coordinate installation schedules, ensure quality workmanship, and maintain compliance with safety standards during construction of large-scale solar projects. Experience in the Caribbean or remote island environments is preferred but not required. Key Responsibilities Lead field mechanical activities for the installation of ground-mounted solar racking systems.
Supervise and mentor installation crews and subcontractors on site. Interpret racking layouts, ground screw designs, and installation drawings. Oversee ground screw installation, upright installation, cross beams, purlins, module mounting, and QA/QC inspections.
Ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and project design standards. Coordinate daily work with the Construction Manager and other site supervisors (electrical, civil). Support troubleshooting and adjustments to optimize system alignment and structural integrity.
Maintain accurate field reports, redlines, and installation records. Foster a safety-first culture on site. Qualifications Certified in a mechanical trade (or equivalent hands-on construction experience). 5+ years of experience on solar utility scale solar PV projects.
Strong knowledge of structural installation methods, racking systems, and quality assurance standards. Demonstrated ability to lead crews and deliver projects on schedule. Skilled in the use of installation tools and equipment (torque wrenches, pile drivers, lifts, etc.).
Willingness to travel and work on remote project sites in the Caribbean. Preferred Previous experience with utility-scale ground-mounted solar racking systems. Experience working in Caribbean or remote island environments.
Familiarity with civil/structural drawings, surveying equipment, and tolerances for racking alignment
