The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) was established on 15 September 2011 by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2009 (2011). UNSMIL is a political mission mandated to support Libyas transition to a stable, democratic and inclusive state, based on the promotion of national unity, reconciliation and respect for human rights and the rule of law.
