Job Description
The Lead Solutions Engineer (Electrical) will be accountable for all engineering and technical disciplines involved in the design, development, and implementation of projects. They will schedule, plan, forecast, resource and manage all the technical activities aiming at assuring project accuracy and quality from conception to completion. They will provide support and coordination to the Fluence project teams with subcontractors, including civil, electrical, and mechanical subcontractors for projects across Australia.
They will have a thorough grasp of relevant engineering issues, connection requirements, and regulatory environments and have the capability to handle several projects simultaneously. In alignment with project and engineering teams in relation to Project Engineering Processes and Procedures. This role requires an autonomous and pragmatic individual who has experience working in a matrixed and virtual environment, working with multiple stakeholders, working on multiple projects/tasks at one time, and working as part of a global team.
Experience within Energy Storage is an advantage but is not mandatory, an agile mindset and comfort working in a fast-paced start-up technology led environment is essential.
Responsibilities
Within the context of the major Design, Construct and Commission (DC&C) sub-contract:
Lead the full technical lifecycle of BESS projects from concept to construction, testing, commissioning, and handover, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, budget, schedule, and industry standards.
Define technical requirements and develop detailed specifications for the overall BESS solution, collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and vendors.
Plan, schedule, and coordinate engineering tasks, track progress, and provide regular updates on project timelines, resources, and deliverables.
Evaluate proposals from BOP contractors, identify and manage project risks, and implement mitigation plans to ensure system integrity.
Develop and execute system-level test plans to validate performance, safety, and regulatory compliance, ensuring systems meet all codes, standards, and customer requirements.
Supervise installations and commissioning at supplier workshops and on-site, collaborating with Fluence and sub-contractor teams to achieve safe and timely project completion.
Produce comprehensive technical documentation, Bills of Material (BoMs), quality artifacts, and user manuals to support project delivery and operations.
Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to engineering team members, sub-contractors, and clients to build capability and ensure high-quality outcomes.
Lead technical discussions and presentations with customers, partners, and vendors, explaining solutions and addressing technical questions.
Stay up-to-date with Fluence technical bulletins, SOPs, and industry developments, ensuring product updates and lessons learned are implemented across projects.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a minimum 10 years relevant experience in an energy, engineering and/or battery storage related field. An ability to interact in a multicultural environment, travel and to work under pressure are also very important.
In Addition, Qualified Candidates Will Have:
BS/BA degree; Electrical Engineering preferred (or equivalent technical degree).
Proven experience in EPC projects for High Voltage Systems, Wind, Solar, or Conventional Power Generation.
Strong technical problem-solving skills, with the ability to review contracts, technical requirements, and engineering deliverables.
Demonstrated leadership skills to manage and develop engineering teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in a multicultural environment.
Strong organizational and project management skills, able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, timeline-driven environment.
