GROUNDSMAN Full-time Job

JOB PURPOSE:

To ensure the beautification and continuous up-keep of the grounds and gardens and all landscaping works within the hotel.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Prepares flowerbeds for planting.

•Maintains gardens/lawns and hedges to the required standards. Ensures the use of proper methods in planting and caring for trees, lawns and shrubbery.

•Waters all plants, gardens and hanging baskets daily.

•Responsible for the collection and removal of all leaves and other debris.

•Assist with the planting of shrubs, trees and flowerbeds in assigned areas, according to Supervisor’s instructions. Plant lawns and re-turf worn areas.

•Maintain irrigation/sprinkler system.

•Weed gardens, lawns and walkways daily.

•Apply fertilizer, fungicide and insecticide to plants, lawns and trees according to the manufacturers’ recommendation.

•Assist in setting up and clearing flower and plant arrangements for all functions.

•Remove cuttings, rubbish and debris after landscaping and gardening work has been done.

•Polices the area and cleans the litter bins and the beach (where applicable) and environs and ensures the surrounding areas are tidy and kept up to required standards at all times.

•Cleans and services tools and equipment regularly. Reports equipment malfunctions to the Supervisor and follows up to ensure that equipment is in good working order.

•Operate gardening equipment.

•Adheres to policies and procedures outlined by the Department and the Hotel.

•Consistently offers professional, friendly and engaging service.

•Completes daily, weekly and monthly maintenance schedules as assigned.

•Maintains inventory of landscaping and gardening supplies.

•Liaises with external agencies as needed and provide support for projects and events. Coordinate services to ensure schedules are kept and to resolve problems with suppliers. Ensure high levels of cost effectiveness. Participate in meetings as needed.

•Assist with disaster preparedness to maintain the environment conducive to operations and evacuation in cases of fire, hurricanes or other disasters.

•Maintains a clean and safe work environment and follows all safety policies and procedures.

•Maintain storage areas in good order.

•Undertake other related responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

•Literate. Minimum completion of secondary level education. CXC subjects desirable

•Previous gardening/landscaping experience required.

•Good physical condition

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

•Ability to operate grounds equipment.

•Sound knowledge of plants and gardening/landscaping practices and chemicals used in

gardening activities.

•Customer service and focus orientation.
