Email Deliverability Engineer

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Email Deliverability Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for administrating the infrastructure that supports email deliverability, including authentication protocols, sender reputation management, and performance monitoring across major email providers and platforms.

You will monitor deliverability metrics, manage email infrastructure, and work closely with Marketing, Development, and Product Management teams to maintain optimal email reputation and performance. Ideal candidates will have deep knowledge of email protocol and services (DMARC, DKIM, SPF, BIMI, Feedback Loops, Postmaster, SendGrid), anti-spam practices and deliverability best practices.

Main responsibilities of the position include:

Oversee key deliverability metrics such as bounce rates, deferrals, spam complaints, and engagement (opens/clicks)

Troubleshoot and manage email systems across platforms including Google Workspace, Microsoft Exchange, SendGrid, Mailgun, and GetResponse

Configure and audit domain authentication protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, BIMI)

Set up and maintain feedback loops (FBLs); monitor sender performance via tools like Google Postmaster Tools and MxToolbox

Track and maintain healthy IP and domain reputations using industry monitoring tools

Proactively respond to blacklists or throttling issues and implement IP/domain warm-up strategies for new senders or campaigns

Partner with Marketing and Product teams to optimize email content, deliverability, and A/B testing strategies

Work closely with Developers to enhance reliability and scalability of transactional email systems

Create and maintain documentation, process guides, and troubleshooting runbooks

Provide input to internal training for junior engineers and support teams

Stay current with global email regulations (e.g. GDPR, CAN-SPAM) and emerging deliverability trends and technologies

Main requirements:

BSc/MSc in Information Technology or any other relevant degree

1+ year of experience in email systems engineering or similar communication infrastructure roles

Solid understanding of email protocols (SMTP, IMAP, POP) and DNS configuration (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)

Experience with ESP platforms (e.g. SendGrid, Mailgun) and admin tools (e.g. Google Workspace, Exchange)

Familiarity with deliverability diagnostics tools (MxToolbox, Postmaster Tools)

Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving mindset

Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently and as part of a team
