Job Details

Job Purpose:

To carry out general maintenance, repairs and new electrical installations on a variety of Public Buildings, private properties, and equipment. In addition, provide a maintenance service to electrical faults on medical equipment at the General Hospital.

Main Accountabilities:

1. Electrical Repairs and Maintenance:

- Carry out maintenance, repairs, and fault-finding on electrical equipment, wiring, and systems in various locations.

2. New Electrical Installations:

- Install new electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment according to specifications and safety standards.

3. Preventative Maintenance:

- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance to identify and address potential electrical issues before they escalate.

4. Testing and Inspection:

- Perform electrical testing and inspections to ensure the safety and compliance of electrical systems.

5. Medical Equipment Maintenance:

- Maintain and repair electrical components of medical equipment at the General Hospital.

6. Electrical Safety Compliance:

- Adhere to electrical safety regulations, codes, and standards to ensure a safe working environment.

7. Documentation:

- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and installations.

8. Team Collaboration:

- Collaborate with other maintenance staff to address electrical issues efficiently.

9. Stock Management:

- Assist with ordering and managing electrical supplies and equipment.

Other Duties:

The post holder will be required to undertake other such duties as may reasonably be required and are commensurate with the grade of the post.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

- Must be a Qualified Electrician by virtue of an NVQ level 3, or equivalent certification from a recognised institution.

- Have at least three years experience as a practising electrician in the UK, and be fully conversant with IEE regulations or equivalent International standards.

- Demonstrate working experience of both domestic and commercial installations.

- Must have proven diagnostic and problem-solving capabilities in the repair and maintenance of electrical installations and appliances, and medical equipment.

- The post holder will be required to have a knowledge of fire alarms, emergency lighting, nurse call, telephone, data networks, and CCTV systems

- A good understanding of IT systems and its uses with an understanding of health & safety procedures within a medical setting.

- Be flexible, a team player, and have a good understanding of Health & Safety procedures, Risk Assessments etc.

- Must have a clean and current driver’s license, the use of which will be required at short notice on various occasions

- Have strong communication skills, written, verbal, and technical.

- Good working knowledge of I.T applications e.g. Microsoft suite.

- Must be available and prepared to attend after hours call outs/breakdowns on electrical faults, when necessary. This can be out of office hours, during evenings, weekends, or public holidays. The employee is paid additional compensation when required to deal with out-of-hour faults, etc.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

- First Aid Certification and knowledge of resuscitation techniques. - NVQ or City & Guilds, BS7671 18th edition in electrical engineering would be desirable but not essential.
