Key Responsibilities

Interpret prescriptions from optometrists/ophthalmologists

Advise patients on lenses, frames, styling & spectacle care

Train patients in contact lens handling and care

Take accurate frame & facial measurements for proper fit

Support partially sighted patients with low vision aids

Adjust and repair spectacles as needed

Manage and order optical products and lenses

Verify prescriptions and features for all lens types

Merchandise products and liaise with suppliers

Requirements

Minimum 5 years’ experience in practice with strong technical knowledge of lenses and frames

Proven dispensing and problem-solving skills

Lab experience and social media skills are an advantage

Familiarity with patient management software, appointments, suppliers, and insurance providers

CI$38,000–48,000 per annum (based on experience), with benefits in line with Cayman Islands Labour Law.

ABDO was formed in 1986 when its two predecessors, the Association of Dispensing Opticians and the Faculty of Dispensing Opticians, were merged following the Health and Social Security Act of 1984. The profession of dispensing opticians has been regulated voluntarily since 1926 and, as a statutory profession, by the Opticians Act since 1958. Since such time the conduct of dispensing opticians has thus been regulated partly by legal provisions, by advice given by the General Optical Council, and by ABDOs own Advice to Fellows
