Job Objectives
Analyse prospective, complex lending transactions for suitability and structure to optimize risks, and to propose well motivated credit risk mitigants in transactions to allow the effective credit risk management by Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI).

Execute lending strategies by contributing towards a fit-for-purpose debt credit analysis processes with appropriate risk management and portfolio concentration limits, including analysis, structuring, executing, monitoring and exit strategies, in co-ordination with deal team partners (both pre-and post-deal implementation).

Maintain an expert awareness and interpretation of applicable laws and regulations impacting credit decisions and the application of required mitigants

Continually monitor existing debt exposures, evaluate financial results, and provide guidance on risks associated with debt transactions, with specific focus on timely intervention/recommendation on transactions under stress or early signals that may increase the level of risks.

Responsibilities
New Investment Assessment: Support transaction deal teams by participating in assessing transactions for appropriateness, given mandate strategies and goals; support development and evaluation of alternative lending structures.
Credit Risk Mitigation Proposals: Conduct credit assessment for lending transactions to be assessed for its suitability (e.g. terms of business/debt/equity, price). Propose ways to structure the lending (e.g. ranking, term) so it can work. In evaluating, interpret the appropriate laws/regulations impacting lending transactions. Based on evaluation and interpretation, propose practical credit risk mitigation steps, and present these to relevant committees and obtain mandate/credit approval.
Portfolio Management & Compliance: In line with regulatory requirements, create appropriate compliance and debt monitoring conditions (incl. documentation), as part of the lending approvals.
Financial Results Monitoring: Evaluate results based on reporting conditions, analyse reports to assess how the business of each exposure performs versus budget and take necessary steps (in line with credit mitigation strategy), as agreed. Make required recommendation where exposure transaction shows concerning issues in a timely manner
Transaction Guidance & Documentation: Based on interpretation of law & lending trends, provide continuous mentorship and assistance (regarding risk and processes) to junior analysts in preparation of credit memos
Documentation Interpretation & Execution: During structuring of deals (before the funding event) help to interpret loan documents for accuracy & compliance.
Ad Hoc Transaction Work: Review new, and support monitoring of existing assets where specific industry sector credit risk is flagged, including assessment of transactions to identify “best use” risk mitigation for proposed investments

Skills and Experience
Professional qualification or Honours Degree in Economics, Accounting, Business Science or similar.
Relevant commercial experience of a minimum of 3 to 5 years.
Working knowledge of a corporate / commercial / investment banking environment, legal framework and its principles including credit process and principles of risk.
Sound knowledge of financial modelling.
Excellent business report writing skills.
