Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) has come a long way since opening its doors in 1985 as the countrys premier national university. Guided by its four core values - people, expertise, relevance and leadership in 2009, UBD implemented the groundbreaking GenNEXT Programme, which provides undergraduates greater flexibility in tailoring studies to the individual students learning style as well as gives them the opportunity to leave the confines of the university classroom in their 3rd year at UBD, during what is known as the distinctive Discovery Year. During Discovery Year, all undergraduate students are given the opportunity to choose to study abroad, undergo an internship at relevant agencies, contribute to community outreach programmes, or even explore entrepreneurship possibilities. With eight academic faculties, eight research institutes and two academic service centres, UBD is well-equipped to provide multidisciplinary programmes as well as offer students the chance to explore interests beyond their specific academic fields, in a bid to produce students with greater adaptability, independence and drive to succeed.
