Job Description

About this job:

The Underwriter will be actively involved in underwriting a portfolio of North American accounts within the Global Catastrophe portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting a world-class portfolio of reinsurance catastrophe accounts;

Managing catastrophe loss evaluation and reporting for the accounts underwritten;

Ensuring that guidelines, plans and policies are adhered to;

Strengthening and building client and broker relationships;

Supporting and contributing to strategy and action planning;

Acquiring, analysing and reporting on market, business and technical developments;

Making underwriting decisions within the authorized limit;

Supporting the underwriting and portfolio steering of the North American cat reinsurance portfolio as required.

Qualifications

Technical Skills / Competencies:

Knowledge of reinsurance and insurance structures;

Established relationships with brokers in the reinsurance market; Strong client management capabilities

Intimate knowledge of reinsurance pricing techniques and catastrophe models.

Behavioral Competencies

Excellent information technology skills, ideally to include experience with Catastrophe modelling tools

An impeccable work ethic, and the ability and commitment to meet deadlines;

Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation and organizational skills.

Work Experience

Preferably 7+ years, but a minimum of 5 years' experience in the reinsurance industry, including progressive experience of catastrophe market dynamics.

Education

Preferably a University Degree in a numerate discipline.

Professional Qualifications Or Designations

Relevant professional designations would be an asset.
