The Instructional Designer assists faculty in designing courses to create effective and engaging learning environments based on desired learning outcomes. The role involves working with faculty from all disciplines to develop course objectives and applicable evidence-based instructional strategies. The focus is on integrating innovative online and technology-enhanced course components to enhance learning in a variety of instructional settings. As a member of the Smart Learning Center (SLC), the Instructional Designer will also provide pedagogical training to faculty through workshops, webinars, video tutorials, etc. on topics related to online instruction, the Blackboard LMS, educational technology tools aimed at helping students have an effective learning experience, course design, and instructional technology integration. The instructional designer plan, develop and optimize instructional materials, including online courses, seminars, instruction manuals, workshops, tutorials, multimedia training modules, and assessments.

Job Requirements

Pedagogy and didactic design:

Assist faculty in selecting instructional strategies and formulating measurable learning outcomes for courses and lessons.

Advise faculty of innovative methods for delivering content in online, hybrid, web-based, and face-to-face environments using appropriate technologies.

Work with subject matter experts to determine thetraining needs of target students and programs.

Assist instructors in developing online assessment methods such as tests or quizzes to measure course effectiveness.

Analyze and apply trends and best practices in learning technologies and instructional design.

Digitization of Content:

Create instructional materials: courses, syllabi, student handbooks, or training manuals.

Create supporting materials/media (audio, video, simulations, role-playing, games, etc.).

Visualize instructional graphics, user interfaces, and the finished product.

Create the layout of the learning materials.

Create and use a rubric to review and ensure thequality of the developed online content.

Project management and documentation:

Maintain project documentation and course online portfolios.

Define and document learning objectives.

Professional Faculty Development:

Develop engaging faculty professional development activities and compelling course content.

Conduct professional development activities for faculty in instructional design and educational technology.

Maintain reports on professional development activities, number of participants, and satisfaction levels.
