Divisional Manager: Bakery Division Full-time Job

Introduction

To manage and control the profitability of a bakery division with 14 Bakery Shops across South Africa while also ensuring that high levels of service are maintained to all Shoprite stores and clients at the best possible cost.

Specification

Planning and Organising:

Plan, direct, or coordinate operational activities of the division and departments.

Manage the movement of goods and stock in the division.

Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans, and to keep up to date with any relevant new legislation.

Control stock and ensure that stock takes are completed at least 4 times per year. Monitor variances and follow up to address any issues.

Plan and implement strategies to ensure that goals are achieved.

Identify, recommend and implement new systems, methods and procedures to improve operations, efficiency and service delivery.

Ensure that all legal requirements, safety standards and Company procedures are adhered to.

Ensure that good housekeeping practices are maintained.

Financial Control:

Prepare an annual divisional budget and ensure financial targets are met.

Analyse financial reports to ensure the division is profitable.

Review financial statements, activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement.

Manage the costs of the division and proactively identify and implement strategies to reduce operating costs.

Oversee and manage the preparation of monthly financial reports to provide an accurate overview of the division’s financial position.

Ensure all payment are correctly processed to suppliers.

Ensure cost management is correctly applied by following the internal procedures of the company.

Effective Communication:

Communicate effectively with staff, Shoprite stores and clients, in a professional manner.

Ensure that all internal and external queries are dealt with effectively.

Ensure that information is accurate and current.

Ensure effective communication and information flow between all relevant divisions and departments.

People Management:

Ensure that staff are developed and trained to meet business needs.

Ensure staff are motivated and performing effectively.

Manage staff performance and take corrective action where necessary.

Act as a mentor and coach to staff.

Ensure that disciplinary procedures are followed.

Address and resolve employee grievances and complaints.

Attend and conduct meetings with staff.

Ensure that recruitment processes are followed.

Continuously promote Teamwork and Team building.

Marketing:

Monitor competitor activity and ensure that pricing and promotions are competitive.

Identify new market opportunities.

Ensure that marketing initiatives are effective.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Relevant degree or diploma in Business Management or related field.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the food industry.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of baking production processes and industry standards.

Financial management and budgeting.

Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.

Skills:

Strong leadership and management skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Computer literacy, including MS Office suite.
