Helps the head coach in developing, organizing and implementing high-quality, member-focused YMCA competitive programs.Requirements Under the direction of the head coach, develops strategies to encourage and motivate swimmers to achieve their personal goals. Ensures all coaching certifications are kept current.
Effectively communicates and builds relationships with participants and participants’ families. Demonstrate ability to teach the development of swimming skills, instruct and observe proper stroke techniques. Has or is willing to complete the proper CPR & AED, USA Swimming and YMCA Swimming certifications within the first year of coaching and keeps certifications up to date.
Complete yearly Safe Sport trainings and requirements for the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy. Makes sure practices are suitable, safe and fit for the age group and ability of the swimmers in the water. Addresses any issues in the pool with the swimmer(s) immediately.
Any issues that are ongoing, need to be brought to the attention of the head coach and/or the parent(s). Assists with practice and meet preparation as needed. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Assists administratively responding to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Assists in compiling team statistics.
Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. Models and teaches the Y values. Some travel, weekends, and nights are required.
Stroke technique, create, manage and run swim workouts.Qualifications One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics director or assistant swim coach. Minimum age of 18. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: CPR; First Aid; AED.
Praesidium Child Abuse Prevention trainings paid but are completed prior to start date. Hold or obtain YMCA Swimming Principles within 90 days of hire.
